We have the high and wonderful priviledge of beginning to homeschool our children this year. It is exciting and pleasurable to make the transition from the informal learning our daughter has excelled at for five years into the more structured form of purposeful education.
Our five year old has begun her studies as a kindegartner. She enjoys reading and math, but doesn't like handwriting or coloring in the lines. Isn't learning to follow directions one of the main goals of Kindegarten? That is one we definitely need to work on.
We are entering into this adventure seeking to keep her heart and mind and body engaged in the learning process. In addition to reading, writing, math, science, geography, history and Bible, we are beginning studies in dance, music, drawing, and other languages.
Does that sound like a lot for a five year old? Well, it is all in the smallest bite sized elements you can imagine. Learning to say Yes and No, Hello and Goodbye, etc. in ASL, Spanish, and Alemannisch

Our younger girls participate in schooling activities now that Big Sister is in school every morning. The 2 year old is better at coloring and doing worksheets than the 5 year old. (Isn't it a joy to see the differences develop!) Our youngest likes the music and dancing and the nature walks best, though she does enjoy a book or two before lunch. Several drool soaked children's books attest to it.
